Stars of both the Premier League and World Cup 2018 have joined forces to celebrate the announcement that the NBA will be returning to the O2 in January for a ninth regular season game, with the Washington Wizards hosting the New York Knicks on Thursday, January 17th in the NBA London Game 2019.
Belgium and Chelsea star Eden Hazard took to Twitter and Instagram to share his excitement that the New York Knicks would be heading to London. The Belgium captain is a long-time fan of the Knicks and urged his followers to “be ready” for the game in January, whilst wearing a New York Knicks jersey with a number six, belonging the Knicks’ star center Kristaps Porzingis. Hazard’s Belgium teammates Thibaut Courtois and Jan Vertonghen also expressed their excitement, with both saying they were ‘looking forward’ to the Western Conference showdown in January and former World Cup winners Cesc Fabregas and Per Mertersacker also joined the social media celebrations.
Last year’s NBA London Game between the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia saw a range of Premier League idols attending court-side to enjoy the game, including Eden Hazard, Sir Alex Ferguson, Thibaut Courtois, Kevin De Bruyne, Wilfried Zaha and more.
