NBA Academy Africa Prospects to Dominating in European Youth Basketball League

From Nov. 8-11, prospects from The NBA AcademyAfrica, the NBA’s elite basketball training center in Senegal, traveled to Hungary to compete in  European Youth Basketball League (EYBL) Stage 1, a  U-20 tournament comprised of top teams from Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Hungary, Spain, Sweden and the UK.

This will be the NBA Academy Africa’s first international competition of the season and they will play their first game of the tournament on Nov. 9 against DjurgardenBasket (Sweden). The teams competing in EYBL Stage 1, include:

  • The NBA Academy Africa
  • Alba Fehervar
  • DjurgardenBasket
  • Independents Basketball France
  • London United
  • Ratgeber Academy
  • Spanish Basketball Academy
  • TTU BA
  • USK Prague

This will be The NBA Academy Africa’s second trip to Europe for international competitions following their trip to Paris and Prague last December. They have won three straight games and will face Hungary’s Alba Fehervar in their fourth game of the tournament this afternoon.

Game 1: November 9th 2018 –  NBA Academy Africa 114 – DjurgardenBasket 55
Six players scored in double figures, Junior Nelly Joseph (Nigeria) led the way with 19pts

Game 2: November 9th 2018 – NBA Academy Africa 109 – USK Prague 46
Junior Nelly Joseph lead the way with 16 pts followed by Timothy Ighoeffe (Nigeria) 14pts and Kurt-Curry Wegscheider (Central African Republic) 13pts

Game 3: November 10th 2018 – NBA Academy Africa 105 – Spanish Basketball Club 39

Five players scored in double figures, Kurt-Curry Wegscheider led the way with 25pts followed by Junior Nelly 14

 

In September, The University of Texas at Arlington announced the commitment of NBA Academy Africa graduate Patrick Mwamba (Democratic Republic of the Congo).  Patrick is one of five NBA Academies graduates to commit to a D1 school and the first graduate of The NBA Academy Africa to do so.
